Just a follow up. the event is limited to just under 200 paddlers. we are currently on 150 per day.
Saturday is starting at 10:30am, PRACTICE is 8am, at the moment. this may change with additional paddlers. Course will be dismantled during prize giving (around 5pm) and the sunday course set up.
Sunday is starting at 10am, PRACTICE is 8am.
There is a catering facility on the island ran by the canoe club.
Camping is available including with electric. ELECTRIC IS FIRST COME FIRST SERVE. No reservations.
Campsite gates close at 11pm, this is nothing the club can control. there is parking outside if you get locked out, they open at 6:30am.

ermmm...

The River Ure is at a Record High level according to the environment agency.
Going to be a challenging event
Not to worry, river levels in this area change very quickly and were hoping the levels drop by Thursday to erect the course.
CHECK BACK FOR UPDATES

The river there does indeed rise and fall quickly.
I remember camping their one weekend, as the river lapped the campsite field we nervously wondering whether it was still going up (the campsite assured it was dropping). Next morning it had dropped a mere 8 feet!

Re: West Tanfield 2/3/4
Campsite is open, and a little less underwater.
One suggestion was using Caravans to create eddies and have a huge slalom... well until 9am that was a real possibility.
We are in the process of cleanup and setup. Photo updates will follow tomorrow.
PLEASE NOTE. THE A1(M) Motorway at RIPON is CLOSED due to flooding between J49 and J60 (40miles ) . RIPON is junction 50/51 and We are unsure when this will reopen.
Please check with the Highways agency before traveling and allow extra time

Re: West Tanfield 2/3/4
How strict is the late entries? What if div4s bottle it if the water is too high?
Or is the event too full already? Just asking the question as there are a few people I know of talking of turning up...

Re: West Tanfield 2/3/4
Hi Nicky, as on the home page of CanoeSlalom
EVENT IS FULL. NO ON THE DAY ENTRIES.That is excluding newly promoted (last 15days only). We have over 170 paddlers entered on Saturday and dispite best efforts cannot find and available time.
And to put it in perspective we only have 5 judges entered, the rest are Div2/3/4 paddlers.
The river is currently still in spate but is dropping fast, it will prove a challenging div4 course.
Anyone wishing to back out or scrap there run MUST REPORT TO CONTROL ASAP.
Again, THE EVENT IS CLOSED, please DO NOT attend expecting to be able to enter.

Re: West Tanfield 2/3/4
course is up and river is at a reasonable level.
You are free to practice from 5pm onward when no river works are been been by the organisers. (if you see a group of people in dry suits moving rocks, please stay off) NO SAFETY WILL BE PROVIDED IN THIS TIME.
We are expecting the river to drop significantly overnight, and this means the course may change again, please be patient and we will be running on time..

Re: West Tanfield 2/3/4
THANKS TO EVERYONE. Those who turned up and help, those who paddled and those who organised. KEN and the team at West Yorkshire Canoe club did themselves proud
All in all we feel we ran an excellent event and ran on time all weekend and had compliments throughout. But itouldnt have happened without the co-operation of the paddlers.
We would also like to thank Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson, who was down supporting with her daughter in the event, for been a fantastic sport and handing out trophies on the Saturday.
