Bala Mill Division 2 / 3 slalom

September 26 / 27

Dear all

Due to the nature of water releases on the river Tryweryn at this time of year, entries are requested for the division 2 beforehand and will close on Wednesday 23rd September. Entries will be accepted by post and email to this date. This is because the water release will not be confirmed until the Wednesday and we will need to make a decision as to whether the Div 2 slalom will run or not. This has an impact on other arrangements re catering and the organisation of the event. Having pre-entered competitors will allow us to ensure that people are aware of the ranking status of the event beforehand. Should the water release be cancelled, the whole event will be postponed to a later date, to be agreed with the slalom committee.

Information has been posted on the canoe slalom website.

Many thanks.

Many thanks, Rich

Bala Mill Division 2 / 3 slalom

26 / 27 September 2009

Bala Canoe Club have decided to postpone the division 2 / 3 slalom to a later date, due to the uncertainty of a water release on this weekend. A decision had to be made early this week, due to the need to prepare for the event and make essential purchases (ie catering, prizes). While there is a good chance of water, the club regrets the loss of opportunity for all but needs to balance this against the investment of time, effort and money by organisers and participants alike. An early decision allows for division three paddlers to attend other races and division two paddlers not to be faced with a similar situation to that met by Ormskirk Scouts in May, where the event at Bala Mill was de-ranked due to the lack of a water release.

It is hoped to run the race on 31st October / 1st November, pending a water release and permissions being gained to run the event. We will produce a start list based on the entries received for the scheduled date. Existing entrants can withdraw entries if this date is not suitable (any cheques will be destroyed) while entries will be accepted from new entrants. Information will be posted on the canoe slalom web site.

The uncertainty of water releases from Llyn Celyn at this time of year has recurred over a number of years and Bala CC has always run these events where possible (despite the possible impacts of a last minute cancellation). In order to overcome this next year, we have applied to run the event in August to minimise this situation arising in future.

Many thanks for your patience and understanding in this matter.

A bit of a plug on behalf of WYCC.

If you were planning on having a weekend's racing at Bala, but don't know what to do with yourself, get yourself up to West Tanfield near Ripon. It's an absolutely mint div 3/4 event with a hog roast on Saturday night!

Why waste a weekend, when there's mint little site up north begging to be attended!

See you all there!

Nicky
