My feeling on div 4 is that events should not be held on "any water" but should be on easier grade moving water as a taster for other divisions. Pool slaloms could be run as club events but should not, in my view, be div 4 events qualifying for promotion. Skills are required on moving water which m...

Nick W, I can't comment, but having read what you have written several times I do not get it. I work in a corporate environment so I vaguely recognise the format but otherwise I just don't get it. Sorry :( Likewise, sorry Nick Understand it, but it could be a vision for lowland bog snorkeling if yo...

How do we grow slalom ???? I'd suggest ... Make it as easy as possibly to enter (and organise) as many local slaloms as possible, at all levels. Simple

Having just realised a D4 SC slalom generates 12 envelopes worth of post event paperwork, I can see we're a way away from that.

Yep agreed, ranking system works. Its been tweaked sure, it needs to adapt, but overall it ain't broke so don't fix it.

If paddlers need experience of bigger (or smaller) water they can always go judge .. so I think its covered both ways.

One aspect of paddlers being promoted too quickly is that they STOP paddling I just have to pull you up on that Colin and say ... huh? I can't see that at all. What I see is youngsters giving up slalom, because beyond one slalom a year, there is nowhere else for them to compete under 3 hours drive....

Surely the following are in the midlands!!! Matlock = North ? HPP = ??? (n?) Stone = ? (n?) Agreed! But the strategy paper we're discussing divides England into North/South .. and IMHO where you draw that line has a HUGE impact on the results. Some of the more used sites, are as you say, "in the mi...

Indeed .. that was my question on the first reply in the thread .. great minds....

Orton Mere = South ?
Matlock = North ?

HPP = ?????? (n?)
Stone = ???? (n?)

Totally agree on the regional approach. This has to be the way forward. If we adopt this National approach, slalom in the S and SE will shortly be as dead as it is now in the SW... which to paraphrase messers Cleese and Palin can be summed up as: It's passed on! Slalom is no more! It has ceased to ...

My reading of it was a regional organised and managed structure. But paddlers obviously can go national, or cross region to compete wherever, and whenever. they liked. Not wanting to divert the thread by looking back (but sorry can't resist)... .. the water may not have changed (apart from CT). But...

even when Broxborne opens it will be prohibitively expensive. That if I may say is the elephant in the room here. Facilities been developed that can't be used to develop the sport in a region, because of cost. IMHO paying for water fees, to give all developing paddlers access to good water does nee...

"super regions" for D4 to 1. Yep, really like that.

Freeing up the Slalom committee to a role focused on Prem and internationals, rules and collating the "super regions" inputs into the yearbook.

Works for me.

Nice one djberriman, that sounds really worthwhile. Well done. Our second mini is this Friday, and I'm experimenting with things like Facebook events as a way of reaching the club members ... http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=141132202569145 Looking forward to it, hopefully the sun will shin...

Would be good to try and get more races on at the same place again. ... Could we run a div 3/4 at HPP on the darlecs, or the chicken shoot? Or a prem/1 on the top section with a 2/3 on the lower section and have a div 4 on the winfield pool? Have a HPP weekend, a Teesside weekend, a Tully weekend, ...

Hi Colin, firstly thanks, this is a good, thought provoking paper. Can I ask a question on: The regional separation of events may be considered as Wales, Scotland, North of England, and South of England, this is not on strict boundaries, but can be developed to reflect the „circuits‟ that paddlers ...
