Re: The Structure of Slalom

'LEAVE THIS ONE AS A DISCUSSION OF THE PROS AND CONS OF CHANGES IN THE RANKING SYSTEM'. Is that the thread? '"it ain’t broke, why fix it?" But think about it. The truth is that, at lower division levels at least, our system doesn’t work all that well, and we are not recruiting and developing paddler...

Re: The Structure of Slalom

I also like it as it is, and agree that if the issue is about bringing in and keeping more paddlers I don't think it's the rankng system that's the issue. If the change is to bring improvement, I guess I'd ask improvement for whom? Does it really allow more paddlers to race? And what is really stopp...

I can see a few potential problems here in putting responsibility to a paddler to arrange someone else to stay on...'I asked him to stay on for me for the next boat and he said he would!..' ..'I didn't hear him'.... Epecially when young paddler voice doesn't carry...

However, while the rule is there it should be enforced fairly and equally. I think that is a key point. The trouble is, that sometimes rules are not enforced, or some rules are not, but others are, or there are inconsistencies, or they are not clearly signposted on site (though I do think it is fin...

My J13 son is at HPP all week paddling - and didn't want to travel to paddle on the 2/3 water so wasn't at Llandysul because he likes the harder water....! so think also need to reflect the fact that there are now J12 and J13 paddlers in Division 1, paddling on Tully, Serpent's tail etc Junior Div ...

or alongside a Pan Celtic event and demote English champs? As the English champs was with the PCC at HPP - but Llandysul should have been the British champs and theoretically above the English champs?
Guess goes back to what is the objective...

Agree on several points, some of which I can't comment on as we weren't there. However, the main reason at least one of us didn't go, was that having checked water levels on environment agency website, and having spoken to others who knew the course, the water for the race wasn't worth driving 7 ho...

We are more likely to go to Tully 1 (4-5hrs) as it has the Pan Celtic, and the Washburn 1 as it is a double (and 2 hrs), than a Shepperton 1 with a div2 (5 hrs), but we would go to Serpent's as a Prem/1 even though it is further for us (7 hrs), or a nearer 1/2 for us like HPP (3.5 hrs). We didn't g...

Hi Our youngest was paddling on his own down the river Tarn in France in a pyrana masterlite when he was 4 years old. (note warm water!) As for swimming. We had them learning to swim in the pool from 6 months and 'swimming' down rapids on our local river at 3-4, but it's more about water confidence...

There's a bit of a thread on this going on UKRGB if anyone follows that.... if they aren't going to open in the evenings in winter, it makes the 'annual membership', (which is only for evenings and weekends if you read the small print) rather steep as you can't use the weeke...

would those 'one ups' even have to go before or after the higher division k1s at all..ie when there was the Prem/Open at the Washburn, those in the Open went after the C2s and C1s.... they could still watch the the k1 Prems and get experience and compare times... anyway, ...
