Hi John,

Remembering our bankside conversation some months ago, I'm happy to supply my base unofficial division 4 ranking files in excel on which you should be able to do some participation analysis if you let me have your email adress.

Cheers,
James

Just a thought, but if badly filled/incomplete entry forms are causing a real problem and a lot of extra work for event organisers, isn't it time a harsher regime was adopted with regard to them? They are not difficult to complete, thus it would suggest a certain amount of laziness on the part of c...

OK Andy, thanks for the clarification. I'll have to go back to my div 4 results/ranking sheets and change the K1M results and check whether it makes any difference to any of the other classes racing in Div 4 at North Walls.

Cheers,
James

Jim, We've largely been talking about div 4 here, which I'm not sure would be covered by the programme you mention as officially they don't get any points at all. In reference to the original question, can you please confirm that in a div 4 race originally containing 16 competitors, but only 15 wit...

Looks like you're right Duncan in terms of points calculations, but we probably need a definitive answer re promotion from Jim. Thus Andy do you want to contact him to confirm the position? In compiling the div 4 rankings, I will go with what the results sheets say, and only 3 were marked promoted ...

Hi Andy, I'm not sure that Duncan is right here. If a competitor does not finish a run, then s/he does not get a finish time and thus does not seem to get ranking points. This is the case in other divisions, and thus I assume is why only 3 got promoted at North Walls, as only 15 completed at least ...

Hi Dee,

I'm happy to do a stint judging the div 1s/C1s/C2s/Ladies, just as long as I'm relieved in good time for my own div 2 runs. Only there on Saturday though.

What irritates me about this is has the ICF done any empirical testing to show that the old standards for BAs were in any way lacking? If it has, it would be very instructure to be able to see it. However, I strongly suspect not, thus this will be just another rule change for rule change sake. James

I stand corrected Anne, the charges are now proposed at £20/2hrs for the Olympic site and £10/2hrs for the intermediate site as you say. The proposed charges were double these as originally emailed to me from the London2010 web site (if you register and interest for Olympic tickets you get all mann...

Actually the proposed charges are £20/hr on the Olympic course and £10/hr on the intermediate course. That means a minimum of £40 for a decent session on the Olympic course. At that sort of price I can't see many paddlers - whether river runners, playboaters or slalomists - using the site that ofte...

I agree with Kendal's comment - why not try to attract people from other boating disciplines into having a go at slalom. There is an old marketing adage that it is up to 30 times cheaper to cross sell to an existing customer than create a new one. The start of the long-term decline in slalom number...

No, they weren't particularly well attended as I remember. However, I always found it odd that they weren't run as Div 1/2s. That would have increased attendance dramatically, with the Div 1s running Serpents on Saturday and moving on to Town Falls on Sunday. I've always believed that technically S...

Old School, What an incredibly blinkered and ridiculous view you have. For a start you have totally misunderstood what John and others of us have said about the possibilities of arranging the structure of slalom differently. I don't think that any of us have suggested a non-ranked, non-competitive ...

Hi oldandslow, I think you're misunderstanding my post. I'm agreeing with Nick that it's a bit of nightmare producing a ranking list for div 4s at present 'cos they are not within the ranking system, and was musing about whether bringing the division within said system would provide more motivation...
