Unless I'm very much mistaken, the whole point of having a divisional system is this puts you in a competition with your peer group? No need to come up with elaborate age bands? To me the separate Vet competition at P/1 level was always for those vets with the skills to compete on Prem courses, but...

Wasn't it a member of the committee that once siad this isn't the proper place to develop such ideas? Well it's the only place we have online, so why not use it to start discussions? I think I'd like to see a "proper" survey of Div 1 paddlers, to see whether doubles are wanted. Then if enough paddl...

Realistically though if you want to compete in any sport at National level then the chances are you are going to have to travel and the furth up the ladder you go the more travelling there will be. This is the point really. Nobody in Prem complains about the lack of doubles or the travelling, but w...

Alan Hartley A colleague from years ago called me FatBoy which was actually ironic because he put on far more weight than me on that project. I don't hide behind a username deliberately, even though I do tend to speak my mind and play devil's advocate quite alot. If the general feeling is that we s...

I don't think the points are wrong in the case you state Fison. It might be unfortunate that the top 10 are always strong even when there are only 30 paddlers, but on face value top 10 when there are 30 is alot easier to achieve than top 10 when there are 60. This part of the system works just fine...

I don't see why it would remove the need to have a Vet's league? As I understand it P/1 Vets are basically those who are technically good enough to paddle Prem courses but not fit enough (allegedly due to being > 35) to stay in Prem. Seems sensible in general although I would probably keep the requ...

Ask yourself this - are you judging a Prem race because you want to race against Prems or are you doing it as training for Div 1 racing? If the answer is the latter as I suspect then it's not racing. When it's a real race I tend to find another couple of % of effort that I wouldn't doing judging ru...

Speaking personally, it's racing I want, not water time, and judging another's race is good practice and training, but it's not really racing. As I will never compete internationally then team runs are fun but practice for nothing other than interclubs. One of the benefits of a double race is that ...

So essentially we're around full circle again to where we were last year - where does the future lie in structure of the sport? Did anything come of the Competiton Review other than the move to best 4/3 wins in Div 2 & 3 and abolition of equal points rule? The link doesn't work any more so not sure...

That's the exact point Duncan - well said. Things outside canoeing :O Div 1 unfortunately due to lower numbers in the sport in general has to have the two faces. One to service the needs of our up and coming superstars, and the other to keep old timers like Duncan (sorry mate) and me happy. We have...

I've got my analyst head on, so don't be offended - it's just me making sure statements are justified or whether they are just conjecture. There are already too many Div 1's. Is there a target number? If so how did that number come about? Throwing a few numbers through a spreadsheet (yeah I know I ...

I can see how this thread is going to go. We're back to the old argument of Div 2 isn't what it used to be, and whether Div 1 should cater for the older not quite so committed racer, or the up and coming Prem wanabees. Personally, as somebody who definitely falls into the former category, I would v...

I think most of the the Div 1's would've rather have had higher water, as we know Llandysul is capable of, but this is part of the sport and always will be unless we stop having natural river courses - something I wouldn't like to see, particuarly beneath Prem. I think the courses, particularly Sat...

Previously people like myself who were reasonably fit, reasonably skilled but not dedicated to either training or travelling were in Div 2, and thus enjoyed a variety of water without travelling too far (depending where you lived) such as HPP, Washburn, Serpent's Tail, etc. As is well documented th...
