Re: Payment for Races
IF we ever have a full non card system then I can see no reason why entries for all events shouldn't be taken centrally using a suitable web commerce system. Even credit cards (+the fee) could be accepted! The money would all go into a Slalom Exec account and the details of each paddler who has ente...

A 1 division system is pointless if you are going pigeon hole paddlers. Their is no suggestion of 'pigeon holing' paddlers. At the moment you can only paddle in one division (until promoted). The single division system allows entry into several different gradings and keeps a real live ranking posit...

Carl 99% of the work running slaloms is done by volunteers. If it weren't for volunteers the sport wouldn't exist in it's present form. It certainly costs me several hundreds of pounds a year in time off work. I ASSUME THAT YOU WOULD BE WILLING TO PAY FOR OTHERS TO DO THE WORK RATHER THAN VOLUNTEER...

Yes - Still have M/W and different classes. Events would have to be graded in advance to allow the calender to be fixed but could be regraded +/- up to 7 days before. This could stop the likes of Shepp / Dysul cancelling a 'Div 1' due to low water - just drop a grade. Judges - as per the present re...

Here is my suggestion for a single slalom divisional system in the UK:- IT IS VERY MUCH 'ROUGH AND READY' AND DESIGNED TO CREATE DISCUSSION. Paddlers would be given a bib number from 1 to xxx depending on last season's results. All the slalom events would be given a 'grading' 1-10 depending on the ...

The time limitations of the timing team and section judges are obviously a factor to be considered. Do we need either??? Why not just have two judges per section at Div 1 level for 2011 and for 2012 insist that at least one is a qualified gate judge. (and run more gate judging exams in the meantime...

I have looked at the ACM minutes and can find no trace of any mandate for the committee to review the slaloms and come up with proposals. Are the minutes incorrect? If they are correct then what's happening? Lets leave it up to the paddlers not the committee to decide - if enough paddlers want thes...

Well further to the list of Slalom demise in the South you may soon be able to add Shepperton. (See event topic). Broxbourne will eventually become available but I'm sure that unless you paddle a RAFT then you won't get much of the (expensive) water time. Look at HPP and Cardiff. We need to reinsta...

I have just heard that the Slalom Committee do not want Shepperton to run a Div 1 slalom next year. (It's was on the provisional calender for Mar 5/6). Although the water level can not be relied on it is no worse than some of the other Div 1 sites and is usually at a good level in March. If Div 1's...

Electronic format is the way forward! We should take a leaf from the Marathon racing system. When I help run a Marathon event I download the paddlers details (Names, Clubs, Ranking etc) before hand, can easily manage all the entries on the day, have results displayed immediately each race finishes,...

Dave B has opened the c'can of worms' above so I thought that I would add my thoughts. I appreciate Ken's efforts to get the event running and much prefer to paddle a 'real river' than a 'concrete jungle' BUT.... I really don't think that we should be forced to change a very long established event ...

I've got a C1 for sale! quite good condition but it's 4m long. It would quite easily lend it'self to shortening; I was going to do it but never got round to it. I'm not really sure of the make but I will get it sorted and make another posting. I can send pics. It's worth £120. I can take it to Shep...
